IBRIDARE

Hybridizing challenges the very concept of the body and explores the possibilities of symbiosis and creative collaboration with something other—something we move toward and with which we may, perhaps, come to identify. What happens if we rethink and re-imagine the body, discovering it as something different from what it has been, through a process of approximation and transformation?

Drawing on theoretical foundations inspired by posthumanist thought and using practices of collective creation—both physical and textual—the laboratory performatively explores the realm of utopia and the unknown in order to attempt other bodies, new forms of invention, and to imagine how they might express themselves in order to communicate.

This study on bodily hybridization seeks to move beyond the natural–artificial dualism, redefining the boundaries of the human body and envisioning new, broader ones.

The laboratory is intended for performers, visual artists, directors, and dramaturgs interested in exploring the possibilities of symbiosis and creative collaboration between their bodies and other elements. Central to the work will be dialogue with the visual element, from both a technical and dramaturgical perspective. Together, we will move through a creative process that includes:

  • Physical training focused on developing perception beyond rationality
  • Research into sources and individual and collective writing
  • Moments of guided improvisation and small-group composition
  • The use of technical elements—particularly the camera and the mobile phone—experimenting with the relationship between live performance and real-time video

The integration of image with dramaturgical research lies at the core of the work of Collettivo EFFE.
